We have a SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-Ordinator), Ondré Young at Pre School who has been trained to support the key person, child and families to ensure that the child’s individual needs are met.
We have robust policies and procedures in place, which are reviewed regularly ensuring that our resources and environments are suitable and accessible for all.
The nursery SENCO will work with the key person to provide personal plans for each individual child based around their abilities and interests. This will be done using resources that are best suited to the child.
The SENCO will liaise with other professionals (with the parents consent) such as Early Years Inclusion Officers, Speech and Language Therapists and Health Visitors to gain further advise in supporting each individual child. The SENCO and the key person will work collaboratively to ensure that these targets and strategies are implemented.
Targets and activities will be reviewed by the child’s key person, SENCO and parents regularly. This is to ensure that the child is getting the best care with in the setting.
Transitioning into Pre School will be tailored to the child’s needs and can be discussed with either Ondré or Sarah to ensure that this will be a happy time for your child.
Transitioning in to school when the time comes can be a scary prospect but we as a pre school will try our best to help as much as we can to support the process.
Please find our SEN Policy in the useful information section.
‘ When looking for a nursery setting, pre diagnosis of non – verbal Autism, we found Breaston Pre school to be the best place for our son within the area. He was instantly calm and happy within the setting and is always excited to go in! Ondré has made the daunting process of EHCP a smooth process going beyond anything we would have expected and has offered help and support when needed. Michelle has supported our son throughout his time at Pre-School; with help from her and the other staff he has developed terrifically! We are so pleased and grateful for all the hard work the team has put in to make our time at Pre School the best it can be! Thank you.’
